Probably indefinitely . . . although, as you have probably found, you will have likely become dependent to the meds and desensitized to the dose over time. Some of the major side effects will be fatigue and constipation, which will get worse with age. I always recommend talking to your physician about alternative therapies (physical therapy or additional surgical options) or either in conjunction with drug therapy. Best of luck to you.
