I am a nurse, but have not heard of this.
I will let you know, any lower back surgery should be avoided. Everyone has difficulty afterward, especially if a fusion is to be done.
If the procedure is to merely make more room for the spinal cord, not putting rods or screws in, you should be fine.
Ask nurses in your area about what doctors THEY would use for this surgery.They see patients after surgery, and can tell which doctor is best.

Nope, have never heard of this. I have heard of a spinal tap though, where they draw fluid from the bottom of the spine.
