I have had (2) two spinal fusion surgeries within 6 months of each surgery. I am now 3 months post-op from my last fusion and I am in worse shape now than before I had my first surgery. I know technology has increased within the past 10 years, but not as much as you think. To the person you wrote the last review, make sure you get at least 3 opinions prior to surgery. If I had it to do all over again I would have elected not to have my spine fused. I am 33 years old with 5 kids and I will never be able to go back work.
Read with care

If you are anticipating a spinal fusion, I DO NOT RECOMMEND this book. While the odyssey of Ms. Dobkins back problems is well written, very interesting and worth reading, I found it terrifying in light of my upcoming surgery. She has several surgeries in succession which made me seriously question my own decision for upcoming spinal fusion surgery. It must be taken into account that her experience is at least 10 years old, thus medical technology has changed and improved. So, perhaps her situation is not an accurate example of what a person in her shoes would experience, if her surgical epic had begun this year.
